Caversham Mill Restaurant has a long and interesting history that goes back to the 1850s. It is situated on the edge of the Lions River, which used to be called Mpofana River, and near the historic Caversham Bridge, which was constructed in 1898.

The restaurant was originally a mill, built by two brothers, Richard and James Hodson, who came to South Africa from London in 1850. They acquired 60 acres of land on the river and named it Caversham. They then constructed the mill between 1852 and 1853, using yellow wood and sneeze wood from the local bush. The mill was used to grind wheat and maize for the settlers in the area.

Caversham Mill Restaurant is also known as the “Cradle of the Meander”, as it was here that the idea for the Midlands Meander was born in 1984. The Midlands Meander is a route that showcases the arts and crafts of the region, as well as its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Restaurant is sold with all kitchen appliances, furniture etc.
