The things that put buyers off most when viewing your property (and how to fix it)

Category Design Tips

We all have our must-have features when it comes to choosing a home, but what about the must-not-haves?

Property24 did a snap poll asking our audience what put them off most when it comes to viewing a property, and the results were unanimous. Outdated kitchens are a big part of the decision-making process when it comes to putting in an offer.

This central part of the home received 43% of the votes, followed closely by old bathrooms with 40% of the votes. In close third and fourth were Unmaintained gardens at 9.6%, and Paint colours at 7% of the votes.

One reader, Hendrik Lemmer is of the opinion that all of these off-putting features could in fact work to your advantage as the worse they are, the less people would be interested in buying the house.

"Buy the worst house in the best area. Paint and a lawnmower is cheap," he says.

If you were ever in need of advice about improving your home, these four aspects would be a good start.
