Scottburgh at a glance

Known as the jewel of the Kwa-Zulu Natal South Coast Scottburgh was named after the governor of Natal. John Scott, Aliwal Shoal just north of Scottburgh was so named when Captain James Anderson, skipper of the barque Aliwal noticed the shoal in 1849, after narrowly avoiding collision with it. As a direct result of thsi a lighthouse was built at both Clansthal and Scottburgh. The Aliwal Shoal is, today, nationally and internationally known for its rich marine life and coral and is a world reknowned scuba diving spot with divers coming from far and wide to see the abundant fish life.

Scottburgh Surf Lifesaving club was formed in 1929 and has rescued in excess of 5000 persons from the sea. Today, Scottburgh SLC is a voluntary club serving the public in a dedicated and caring manner so anyone either residing or holidaying in the area are assured of a safe stay on the local beaches.

The Scottburgh property arena is an area that appeals to both young and old, retired people and families, with an excellent high school that has good results in both academics and sports. There is also a very good general hospital as well as a couple of private facilities.

only 20 minutes away is Amanzimtoti, which has a new lifestyle centre called The Galleria, a vast shopping mall which includes 10 cinemas. Durban is 40 minutes away on an excellent highway.

Scottburgh property is vast and varied and there is something to suit everyones pocket, be it for leisure, business or residential. Properties range from small flats, which suit the elderly retired people who flock to the South Coast to revel in the warms winters and glorious summers, to beautiful family homes, which appeal to Moms and Dads. Scott street which runds through the town is a bustling area withe asy access to shops, coffee bars, a good library, banks and curio shops. There is a weekly market which caters for all tastes and there are many festivals and fetes during the year which add to the vibrant holiday mood of this lovely town.
